Course Name: NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course - This is the class required by the state of Michigan to obtain a Concealed Pistol License.
Description : Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. This course meets the State of Michigan requirements for the pistol safety training course required for the application of a Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course participants must be law abiding adults at least 21 years of age.
Topics covered in this class include:
- SPECIAL BONUS SECTION FOR WOMEN - how to defend yourself without a handgun against rapists, predators, etc.
- SPECIAL BONUS SECTION FOR MEN - how to defend yourself without a handgun against even the biggest assailants
- Learning about basic firearm safety and why the proper handling of guns is so important
- Understanding the necessity of proper mental preparation
- How to develop a defensive mindset
- Understanding physiological changes in your body in high stress situations
- Learning defensive shooting skills
- Aiming and firing techniques designed for rapid response
- Strategies for making both you and your home safer
- How to respond to a break-in or home invasion
- How to confront and defend yourself against an intruder
- How to defend yourself against multiple attackers
- Legal aspects of a defensive shooting
- Factors to consider when selecting a pistol for personal protection
- Understanding the importance of using the proper ammuntion for personal protection
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR THIS CLASS:
- Time: 9:00 to 5:00

Handguns: Students should bring a .22 caliber pistol or larger (no magnums, please). Revolver or semi-automatic are both acceptable.

Ammunition: Please bring 50 rounds of ammo.

Personal Protection: Students should bring their own eye and ear protection, but we have extras available for use free of charge just in case you don't have your own.

Rentals: Pistols are available to rent for an additional charge of $10.

Lunch: Students should plan to bring their own lunch.

Optional: Snacks, water, pop, etc.
